About Chris
Chris was born and raised in Southwest, NM and retired from the Silver City Police Department after 20 years of service. He also worked for the Grant County Sheriff's office for nearly 4 years. In addition he worked for Freeport McMoRan in Human Resources.
Chris attended Western New Mexico University and is a proud Mustang! He is currently in his second term as the chairman of the Grant County commission. Chris is married to Julie Reese Ponce and they have a daughter and son, Erika and Christopher Ponce.
Chris Ponce is a distinguished individual known for his dedication to civic engagement and community service. Chairman Ponce has always held a deep connection to his community and has worked tirelessly to improve the lives of its residents. With a strong background in public administration and law enforcement, Chris has focused his efforts on advocating for social justice issues, affordable housing initiatives, access to affordable healthcare and a high-quality education for all members of the community. His passion for serving others has garnered him recognition as a leader in the region and he continues to be a driving force for positive change in New Mexico.
Standing Up For New Mexicans :
Chris Ponce protected our communities as a police officer for nearly a quarter century. He looked out for workers in the local mines as an HR administrator. Now, as Chair of Grant County Board of Commissioners, Chris fought hard to keep the doors open at Gila Regional Medical Center, the largest hospital in a 100-mile radius. He delivered critical resources to improve infrastructure, roads and water systems. Chris has been a champion for our veterans and seniors.
